Kanata U10 Boys win bronze at Blessed Sacrament

2015-03-07

Kanata U10 Boys wen 4-1 and win bronze medal at Blessed Sacrament, Hamilton, ON.

For the first time, KYBA put together a semi-competitive Boys U10 team this season.

Representing the strongest of our Novice division, this allowed coaches the opportunity to offer additional practice time to really help to develop their skills.  It also allowed them to find a higher level of competition for the boys.  The team is a bridge towards making the jump to competitive basketball with ONL - KYBA's competitive stream which starts with U11.

The team played in the Atom House League this season, and also played in EOBAs (Eastern Ontario Basketball Association) in the Major Atom (U12) division - with strong showings.  They also had the opportunity to enjoy some travel experiences - attending tournaments in Rosemere, PQ and Hamilton, ON, where they could play other Novice teams.

The Hamilton tournament, one of the largest in the province, was Blessed Sacrament, featuring 5 U10 Boys divisions with 40 teams altogether.

Being the first OBA sanctionned event for the boys, it gave them a real glimpse into what playing competitive basketball would be like.

They learned alot over the weekend - the importance of teamwork, of never giving up, and what it feels like to be proud to represent their team, their club and their city.

They played 5 games over the weekend and came out on top 4 times.

After the first day of play they were the only team in their 8 pool division that won all 3 of their games and advanced to divisional seminifinals.

v. Guelph CYO Knights W 22-19
v. Cambridge Centaurs Gr4 W 33-25
v. St. Thomas Shock W 44-21
v. Chatham-Kent Wildcats L 29-30
v. Cambridge Centaurs Gr4 W 34-23

Their loss in the semifinals vs Chatam-Kent Wildcats was a heartbreaking one - by 1 point.  They played strong and worked hard until the end, and can be very proud of that.

The team advanced to the bronze medal game wherer they met Cambridge Centaurs team. The boys worked hard and came out on top and bring the bronze medal home

Congratulations to the players and coaches on this great success!
