2016-2017 ONL U16 Coach: Ryan Barbeau

2016-08-18

University of Ottawa Lead Assistant Coach Ryan Barbeau will be coaching ONL U16 this upcoming season.

Years Coaching: 8

- Belleville Spirits U15 and U16 (where he won two Bronze Medals at OBA Division 2)
- Loyalist College Men's Program (2012-2015)

This will be Coach Barbeau's first season with Ottawa Next Level as he joins us from Loyalist College in Belleville. He takes over this season as Lead Assistant of the uOttawa Gee-Gees program from former ONL U19 Coach Justin Serresse.

Coach Barbeau believes that discipline is a major key to success at any level:

"My philosophy of coaching is based on disciplined play, both offensively and defensively. I have always been a coach who has preached "matchup basketball" as well as getting out in transition as much as possible. But what has become apparent to me is that teaching kids how to hunt down GREAT shots instead of settling for good shots... I think thats where my discipline mentality comes into play."

What Coach Barbeau plans to bring to the table:

"I am going to bring a high energy approach to my team this year. I am going to encourage kids to step outside their comfort zones and to try to become better players by experimenting with different skills and developing an all around game. I will develop a team first, positive atmosphere both at my practices, as well as at games. We will be a team that communicates with each other, that is willing to sacrifice individual success for team success, and a team that plays with more effort than anybody else."

Our association is very fortunate to have Coach Ryan Barbeau on board. Tryouts for the defending U15 Division 2 Champions (formerly ONL U15) will begin in just under 3 weeks. Don't miss out!
