Support Ottawa's bid for 2021 Canada Games!

2017-01-09

Ottawa is one of four communities bidding to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games. We are in the homestretch, and now need help from the community to show our support! Read on to learn more about this event and how you can help.

"The Canada Games are the largest multi-sport event in the country for young athletes, and a premium nation-building event that enriches Canadian culture and creates lasting legacies."  This event is hosted every two years, alternating between summer and winter.

The City of Ottawa is one of four Ontario cities bidding to host the 2021 Canada summer games.  The bid is being coordinated by an executive committee, co-chaired by Ottawa Senators President, Cyril Leeder, and four-time Olympian, Sue Holloway, with representatives from the local business community, Ottawa Tourism, the City of Ottawa and local sport organizations (including EOBA) has been established to oversee the bid process. Simple and compact, Ottawa’s bid for the 2021 Games offers an outstanding Athletes’ Village concept (at Carleton University) and venue clusters that would offer an inspiring Games experience for athletes and spectators alike.

The bid leverages more than 20 existing sport and non-sport venues, all within less than a 30-minute drive of the Athletes’ Village. These include City of Ottawa facilities and other venues operated by Carleton University, uOttawa, Ottawa Sport and Entertainment Group, Camp Fortune, Nepean Sailing Club and the Ottawa Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club.

The City of Ottawa has asked the EOBA executive, coaches, players and parents of players to take on a leadership role in promoting the city’s bid.  The next phase of the bid process is all about showing community support.  As a way to show your support please take a few minutes to visit the Canada 2021 website and click on the Show your Support link and register your support for the bid.  Over the next few months the EOBA will continue to provide opportunities to show your support so that when the bid committee comes to Ottawa on March 2nd – they will know that the Ottawa Region is the most passionate basketball region in Canada.

Many thanks for your time and support!
